This movie put me through the absolute wringer. I can confidently say that every single character on screen did amazing work, and for what this film aimed to be, there was not a single weak link in the entire cast.

Directed by Francis Lawrence, The Long Walk (2025) follows an annual, grueling dystopian contest where teenage boys must maintain a walking speed of three miles per hour without stopping, and failure results in execution. Lead actors David Jonsson and Cooper Hoffman form an absolutely amazing duo as Pete and Ray. Their dynamic on screen broke me; I cried multiple times watching this movie.

The sheer simplicity of the premise is what makes it so devastating. You feel the crushing physical and emotional weight of every single step. The film brilliantly explores the humanity of every character and their deeply personal reasons for signing up for a competition that means certain death for everyone except the sole survivor.

Honestly, I am amazed that a Stephen King adaptation actually came out this incredibly good. Historically, it is very rare for a King movie to capture the magic of the book so perfectly. It makes me wonder if he had any direct involvement in the production, because his adaptations are usually only this good if he is completely hands-off. (As it turns out, Francis Lawrence and writer JT Mollner nailed the bleak, heartbreaking tone completely on their own).

But back to the film itself—this was an absolute masterpiece of emotional cinema. I think this was a great movie, and I would highly recommend it to anyone and everyone who can handle the immense emotional damage this story will inevitably cause.
