Over Your Dead Body is the 2026 action comedy thriller directed by Jorma Taccone โ yes, the MacGruber and Popstar guy โ and produced by David Leitch and Kelly McCormick's 87North Productions, the action powerhouse behind John Wick, Nobody, and Bullet Train. It's an English-language remake of the 2021 Norwegian film by Tommy Wirkola, and stars Jason Segel and Samara Weaving as a dysfunctional married couple who retreat to a secluded cabin to repair their relationship โ while each of them secretly plots to murder the other. Things, predictably and gloriously, do not go to plan.
I'll be upfront: this one had a slow start that gave me a flicker of worry. But the moment it found its footing, it became a genuinely fun ride from front to back, and I came out the other side grinning.
The tonal balance is the film's secret weapon. The humour genuinely lands, and then the violence โ in this confined, domestic setting โ is absolutely top tier. That's no accident. With 87North producing, the action choreography carries the same weight, creativity, and impact that company has become known for, and it elevates the entire experience well beyond what a smaller comedy thriller would normally manage.
The cast is uniformly excellent. Samara Weaving is fantastic in the lead, and I particularly loved that the film kept her real Australian accent and wove it directly into the story rather than papering over it โ it pays off in one specific line that had me laughing genuinely hard. Timothy Olyphant, Juliette Lewis, and Keith Jardine make up a perfect trio dropped into the chaos, and all three commit completely to their roles. Olyphant is a particular standout โ there are moments where he conveys an entire monologue's worth of meaning with nothing but an expression. That's the mark of a performer completely in command of his craft.
In keeping with the spirit of the film, I don't want to say too much. Part of the joy here is letting it unfold and surprise you. So I'll keep this brief: just watch it, go in fresh, and have a good time. This was a blast.
