I do not have many words for this movie, but I will try to string a few together. The nicest thing I can say about The Devil's Mouth (2026) is that it simply existed. It got fully funded by Amazon MGM Studios, it got released on Prime Video, and there were actors in it. They acted... some of the time.

Directed by Jeff Wadlow, the premise follows a group of recent college graduates—including Kathryn Newton and Lana Condor—who take a guided tour through a remote, flooded cave system in Thailand. Naturally, a freak storm brings a bull shark into the freshwater caves, and the group gets picked off one by one. We currently live in an incredibly saturated world when it comes to shark movies. The subgenre is overflowing with them.

So my biggest question for the filmmakers is this: why would you choose to make a movie where a shark hunts people in a confined space if you know you are not going to do anything remotely special with it? It is a bafflingly weird choice. Instead of delivering a fun, claustrophobic thriller, the script attempts to lean heavily on a toxic friendship dynamic between Newton and Condor's characters. Nobody watches a subterranean shark B-movie for a paper-thin drama about college friends growing apart.

Furthermore, we need to talk about the cinematography. If you are filming a movie inside a pitch-black cave, we as the audience kind of still need to see what is going on, chief. So much of the runtime is spent staring at dark, muddy water while people splash around screaming. You cannot build tension if the viewer is just squinting at their screen trying to figure out which blurry pixel is the shark and which one is the actor.Do not waste your time seeing this shit ass movie.

It was completely boring, completely uninspired, and an absolute waste of time.
